Buffalo is the second largest city in the state of New York next to New York City and is a major tourist area because of its connection to Canada’s Golden Horseshoe and Niagara Falls. It is located just east of Lake Erie and at the mouth the Niagara River. It is a place of beautiful waters, bright lights, and plenty to see and do.
The area that is now Buffalo was originally settled by Europeans sometime during the eighteenth century. It was occupied for many years by various Indian tribes such as the Neutral Nation Tribe and the Iroquois Indians. It was also a location that was burned down by British forces in 1813 during the War of 1812. However, despite the fires and disputes, Buffalo was able to rebuild itself into a grand community.
Buffalo has been primarily an African American community throughout the years. Because of the interest of the African American community, Buffalo was also a popular meeting place for participants during the abolitionist movement. Famous abolitionist leaders such as William Wells Brown lived in Buffalo. It was also a place where President Abraham Lincoln visited frequently and worked with the African American population during the Civil War. Later President William McKinley was shot and died in Buffalo. Today, there are memorials for these famous people and others who have left their mark on this great city.
Buffalo is a major tourist city in the state of New York because there are so many things to see and do here. There are many nice museums throughout the city where visitors can see and learn all about the cities unique history. Along the water fronts are boats, fishing, and other water sports (weather permitting), and the city is full of fine dining, shopping, and cultural and sporting events. One thing that visitors really like in Buffalo is that last call at the bars is at 4:00am, rather than at 2:00am. This gives them more time to dance, drink, and be with their friends on a night out on the town. Buffalo is a city that does not sleep because there are things to see and do in the city almost twenty-fours per day. Many guests will visit Buffalo on their way to or from Niagara Falls and Ontario, Canada (which is right next door).

It currently has four major interstates running through it where traffic will get very heavy during the rush hours of 7:00am – 9:00am and again from 4:00pm – 7:00pm.
