Deep in the south eastern part of the state of Florida is a city called Boca Raton. It is a beachside city whose name literally translates as “rat’s mouth” in Spanish. However, Boca Raton is not a city of rats. It is a beautiful city by sea that is full of friendly people who love the sun, the surf, and the sand. Boca Raton has been a popular tourist attraction in Florida for many years. At one time, it was the home of two of Florida’s best amusement parks. Africa USA was an amusement park that flourished from 1953-1961. It was a park where guests could ride in safari jeeps along side a trail to see various African animals such as elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and more. There was no fence or barrier between the people and the animals. Therefore, it seemed as if the guest were really on an African safari. People came from all over the world to see Africa USA. The other park was known as Ancient America. Ancient America flourished from 1953-1959. This park was built around an Indian burial mound and its main focus was to educate the guests about Native Americans. Both of these parks are closed today; but both areas are now occupied by new and exciting attraction. Camino Gardens now sits on the site where Africa USA once occupied; and the Boca Marina and Yacht Club occupies the space where Ancient America was located. The Indian burial mound is still visible. Boca Raton was very well known by many visitors for these fabulous parks.
Boca Raton is also very well known by computer buffs because it is the original home of IBM (International Business Machines) and the birthplace of the IBM PC. IBM later relocated to North Carolina, but the people of Boca Raton still take pride in being the original home to one of the world most famous computer system: the IBM PC.
There is so much to see and do in Boca Raton. In addition to its great museums, restaurants, and cultural events, it is also popular for its beaches. The beaches in Boca Raton are quiet, relaxing beaches that are great for families.
Many famous people call Boca Raton their home such as award winning race car driver Jeff Gordon and the controversial musical artist, Marilyn Mason. Several famous tennis players also reside in Boca Raton such as Andy Roddick, Jesse Levine, and Chris Evert.
Bicycle and car rental are among the two most popular modes of transportation in Boca Raton, Florida. Guests enjoy renting bicycles to ride long the seashore. However, many tourists rent cars to go around and outside of Boca Raton. The state of Florida is full of fun, sun, sand, and many attractions. Boca Raton is only a short drive from Orlando and Miami (some of Florida’s most popular tourist locations and attractions). So renting a car or truck makes sightseeing outside of Boca Raton much more accessible. Most of the car hire agencies in Boca Raton have some of the best deals in Florida. It is considered to be Florida’s best car hire secret.
