The city of Granada is the capital of the Granada province in the region of Andalucia in southern Spain. Granada can be found at the base of the sierra nevada, at a very spectacular spot where three major spanish rivers converge, the Biero, Genil and Darro. Granada is far off the beaten track in comparison to some of the major cities, as well as being far way from the coast. Yet, Granada holds major tourist attractions for people who have emanated form such of the ancient cultures who dwelled in the region. one of the most outstanding historical sites in the region is alhambra palace, which acts as a citadel of the historical legacies of the city, encompassing the muslim, christian and jewish religions that all thrived together in the city at one time. Granada is a city that is alive all year round with visitors. In the summer it attracts visitors from abroad to the historical sites in spring, winter and autumn, the city's population is further swelled by the thousands of students who come form all over Spain to attend the prestigious and world renowned University of Granada. In the winter months, you will see the unusual site of skiers arriving from all over Europe to test their skills on the slopes of Mulhacén mountain that reaches a height of nearly 3,500 meters. Granada is indeed a contrast, as a car journey of less than an hour will take you to the mediterranean coast, so it is possible to ski and swim on the same day. . Granada is famous for its wide promenades and beautiful gardens, a turn left or right will take you into framework of narrow often cobble stoned streets lined with pavement cafes serving locally made wine, tapas and Granada's famous Trevélez ham. Granada is an enchanting city and one of the centers of flamenco dancing in all of Spain. If you happen to be in the city when one of its popular festivals is taking place, then you are promised an unforgettable and colorful experience. For those who want to travel outside the city there is much to see and do. Many of the beaches are a short car journey away and are especially breathtaking, with secluded bays where leisurely picnic lunches can be partaken. this region is also one of the main centers for agriculture in all of Spain.
